Alois Rigele

1879 – 1940

Well-known Slovak sculptor, he studied sculpting at the Viennese Academy with professors Bitterlich and Hellemar. His early creative output was influenced by art nouveau, he created especially intimate figural sculptures. He is the maker of the famous statue of emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria from 1911 and well-known is also his sculpture of cardinal Pazmányi for the epitaph in the cathedral of Bratislava.
