Jacques Marly

French painter, forgotten for many years, an excellent painter of Cubist still lifes. After moving to Paris he became a successful entrepreneur and, untill the end of the Second World War owned the Marly ballroom in the district of Gare de l'Est. There he met numerous painters (Degas, Dongen, Gris) who became his inspiration. Financial security made it possible for him to focus on his hobby throughout his life. He was not selling his works during his life and only recently, thanks to his heirs, they found their way onto the art market.
